Sreekumar Achary, better known by his stage name Jagathy Sreekumar is an Indian film actor who has performed in more than 1,000 movies. He has also directed two movies and written screen play for two movies. His stage name is derived from the town of Jagathy in Southern Kerala, Trivandrum. Jagathy Sreekumar was born on January 5 1951, at Jagathy, Trivandrum. He is the son of Malayalam dramatist and writer N.K. Acharya. Acharya was an All India Radio employee. Even from childhood, Jagathy Sreekumar had the dream of becoming an actor.
Jagathy Sreekumar Acharya was a class V student at Model School in Trivandrum when he first got the opportunity to act in a play. By the time he joined the Mar Ivanios College, Trivandrum, he had become an experienced theatre person. His first film was Chattambi Kalyani. With 1,100 Malayalam films to his credit, he is reckoned as one of the most popular actors in the Malayalam film industry. In real life, he is a different person altogether, where he is very serious in contrast to the jovial characters he often portrays. He considers acting as a serious profession.
In his acting career, Jagathy Sreekumar has been bagged with various awards and nominations and then some of his unique features are that, he has acted in over 1000 films, he has never acted in any other movies other than Malayalam cinema, he has never carried a mobile phone nor does he have any assistants or secretaries, he is an active supporter of Indian National Congress.
